About

Why do we love where we live? To answer this question, the National League of Cities created the Love My City campaign. Highlighting the meaningful bonds between communities and residents, NLC has organized its work into four key pillars.

Encouraging Civic Engagement

Want to create a more informed, inclusive community? The answer is simple: citizen service. When residents are more active in public life, they develop a stronger sense of community trust. And today, trust is more important than ever, especially when it comes to the 2020 Census.

BUILDING COMMUNITIES FOR ALL GENERATIONS

From infants to millennials to baby boomers, each generation has different needs and experiences. Creating a vibrant city means empowering residents at every stage of life. As a result, NLC is helping local leaders uncover what it means to provide services to all.

UPLIFTING LEGACY CITIES

Once drivers of a strong American economy, legacy cities have become the face of disappearing factories, vacant buildings and shrinking populations. Now, these once-vibrant communities must reimagine themselves for 2019 and beyond. This year, NLC will bring together a dynamic group of leaders whose commitment to their cities is unmatched.

ENSURING HOUSING FOR ALL

It’s hard to love your city if you’re concerned about the basics—like a roof over your head. For too many Americans, affordable housing is out of reach. To address this critical issue, NLC created national housing task force. That task force has now created a set of best practices for the local level, as well as policy recommendations to federal and state governments.
